There are many women shaping the future in different sectors in corporate America. This article highlights 5 women making significant contribution in the financial sector.

1. Adena Friedman:

Adena Friedman is an American business executive and the CEO of Nasdaq, a global electronic marketplace for buying and selling securities. She was born in 1969 in Silver Spring, Maryland. Friedman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Williams College and an MBA from Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University.

Friedman joined Nasdaq in 1993 and has held several leadership positions within the company. She became the CEO of Nasdaq in 2017, making history as the first woman to lead a major U.S. stock exchange.

2.  Jane Fraser:

Jane Fraser is a Scottish-American businesswoman and the CEO of Citigroup, one of the world’s largest financial institutions. She was born in 1967 in St. Andrews, Scotland. Fraser graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Master’s degree in Economics and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Jane Fraser has been with Citigroup since 2004 and has held various senior positions within the organization. She became the CEO in 2021, becoming the first woman to lead a major U.S. bank.

Fraser is known for her deep understanding of the banking industry and her strategic leadership in driving Citigroup’s growth and transformation. She has prioritized enhancing the bank’s profitability and efficiency while focusing on risk management and sustainable practices.

 

3.  Mellody Hobson 

Mellody Hobson is an American businesswoman and the Co-CEO and President of Ariel Investments, a global asset management firm. She was born in 1969 in Chicago, Illinois. Hobson graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor’s degree in Public and International Affairs.

Mellody Hobson has been with Ariel Investments since 1991 and has played a pivotal role in the firm’s growth and success. She became the Co-CEO in 2020.

Hobson is known for her expertise in finance and investments, as well as her advocacy for financial literacy and diversity in the financial industry. She has been recognized as a leading voice on topics such as race, gender, and economic inequality.

 

4. Abigail Johnson:

Background: Abigail Johnson is an American businesswoman and the CEO of Fidelity Investments. She was born in 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts. She graduated from Harvard University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art History.

Companies: Abigail Johnson has been with Fidelity Investments since 1988, starting as an analyst and holding various positions within the company. She became the CEO in 2014, succeeding her father, Edward C. Johnson III.

Known for: Johnson is known for her commitment to innovation and technology within the financial services industry. She has led Fidelity Investments’ expansion into digital offerings and has been instrumental in driving growth and attracting younger investors.

  5. Mary Callahan Erdoes:

Mary Callahan Erdoes is an American business executive and the CEO of J.P. Morgan Asset & Wealth Management. She was born in 1967 and grew up in Winnetka, Illinois. She  holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Georgetown University.

Erdoes has been with J.P. Morgan since 1996 and has held various positions within the company. She joined the Asset Management division in 1999 and became the CEO in 2009.       Erdoes is known for her expertise in asset management and her strategic leadership in expanding J.P. Morgan’s asset management business. Under her leadership, J.P. Morgan Asset & Wealth Management has become one of the largest asset management firms globally.
